PLAY: YOGI IN THE MEDICINE WHEEL
with JEFF COCHRAN (and company)
This play is a presentation of indigenous earth wisdom teachings, including; The four bodies teachings of the Buddhist and Sioux tradition, the Iroquois creation story and the teachings of Black Elk. Participants will sit within a circle and the play will take place around them from the four directions. Occasionally participants will be asked to join the play in yogic motions. Music and the rainbow of colors will accompany the performers.
Participants will sit inside a circle on the studio floor representing a medicine wheel. Performers will speak and move and play music from the four directions around the circle sharing earth wisdom teachings from the Buddhist and Sioux traditions. Occasionally, participants will stand and join the performers in simple motion exercises.
The Buddhist and Sioux traditions teach us that people have four “bodies.” The Dali Lama names these: the Enjoyment Body, the Truth Body, the Emanation Body, and the Buddha-Nature Body. The Sioux name these: the energy body, the biological body, the body governing our characteristic strengths, and the guardian-spirit body. Wonderful discoveries are made when we place the Buddhist and Sioux four bodies teachings inside the four-season hoop of life represented by the medicine wheel. Listeners will come to find that the Buddhist and Sioux four bodies teachings are surprisingly familiar to us, describable in scientific language, and offer a unique holistic way to honor our relationship to ourselves, our species, our bio-region, our culture and our cosmos.
RESTORATIVE YOGA
with MICHELLE MARON
Restorative Yoga with option for 'hands on assists'. Experience complete relaxation in just a few hours at this weekend workshop of Restorative Yoga - the gentle art of relaxing the body and mind without much physical movement or effort. In the quiet, soothing yoga space each posture is set up with pillows, bolsters, blankets and other props to support you while intentionally breathing and releasing tension in specific areas. As you are gently guided from posture to posture this healing practice allows you to go deeper in each restful pose. You will come away with a sense of quiet calm while also feeling energized - restored.
“This restorative workshop was pure magic. Michelle gave me permission to come into the space exactly as I was. For those two hours there were no expectations of me other than to listen to my own bodies needs. It was a release; physically and emotionally. I found my breath again and I felt strong as I let go and relaxed fully. I cannot recommend this workshop enough . I am already looking forward to the next offering.”
