Ayurveda for Menopause

Whether you are deep in the throws of Menopause or in the decade leading up to this transition, there are many helpful awarenesses and practices for preparing for and soothing the body's natural transformation during this time.

Learn about the science and fresh perspective of menopause through an Ayurvedic lens. We'll explore the unique experience each woman has throughout this phase, as well as the most common symptoms that arise.

* dryness in the body
* fogginess of the mind
* disrupted sleep
* bone health
* weight gain

We'll talk about the physiology of the body, what processes are interrupted, and how we can soothe discomfort through diet, herbs, and lifestyle changes or additions.

Menopause is not considered an imbalance or weakness in Ayurvedic Medicine. It is an opportunity to understand the intelligence of the body and to deepen relationships with Self and the Whole through listening to and nurturing the holistic being.

“In New Zealand, they swing it! “POI” is the Maori word for “ball” on a cord. Many years ago the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand used it to increase their flexibility and strength in their hands and arms as well as improving coordination. Today, the women dancers perform the Maori poi, a dance performed with balls attached to flax strings, swung rhythmically. Men used it for strength and coordination.”

Through the seasons and over many miles life is a bit of a struggle.  Since the very first step of our journey our hips have accompanied us on a steady path but also on those slippery slopes where we risk falling, uncertain if we will be able to get back up.  For Happy, Healthy Hips Take Two, we will look at some of the lateral poses like Warrior II to explore and expand the mobility of our hips to create a more joyful journey.  Once again, come as you are, and maybe you will leave with more spring in your step too.

“Acro-yoga is physical practice that combines yoga and acrobatics. Acro-yoga includes many types of (mostly recreational) partner and group acrobatics in which at least someone is lifted. As such, it also draws on traditions of circus arts, cheerleading, and dance."
